Assignment

  • Once this semester, you will be required to find an article or web site that relates to the material being discussed in class.  You will post a description and critique (as described below) to the class WebBoard.  Assignments are posted for each exam unit (see the assignment schedule)
  • During each exam unit, you will be required to post two replies ON TWO DIFFERENT DAYS to the WebBoard, commenting on the material posted by your classmates.  You may post as many additional replies as you wish, one of which (per unit) will also count for credit.  (You should visit the article or web site described prior to commenting.)  ONLY ONE REPLY PER DAY WILL BE COUNTED FOR CREDIT!
  • Each student will be assigned to a group of 7 or 8 students, each group will have one or two critiques to discuss each unit.
  • Using WebBoard (pdf file)

Posting Requirements for Description & Critique

  • Name: Your Name (automatically included by WebBoard)
  • Topic: Give the general topic of the article in the title section of the posting.
  • Source: Cite the source (author, title, etc.) and provide the web address (WebBoard will automatically create a hyperlink)
  • Date of article: Give the date the article or web site was published.
  • Brief description of the story/article/web site: Describe the subject of the article/web site. Be sure to include the important details: what, where, when, why, who, etc. This should be five or six sentences at a minimum.
  • Interpretation/application to class: Explain how this relates to the concepts learned in class. Critique the article/site: does it make sense with respect to what you have learned?  What is its purpose and point of view?  What are its assumptions? This should be five or six sentences at a minimum.

  • Two replies required per exam unit
