Exercise 10: Glaciers

Problem 2a (3-5)

  1. See the labeled version of Fig 10.9.
  2. See lab book page 185 and text book page 404.
  3. What "zone" is at the front of the glacier? What is happening there? What remains? See lab book pages 185-187 and text book Sections 14.4, 14.5, 14.6.

Problem 3

  1. (1) Think about it. (a complete answer will include two of the three choices) Which of the three choices would result in a pile of sediment being deposited? After a pile had been created, which of the three choices would result in the recently created pile of sediment being preserved (and provide the opportunity to create a second, parallel pile of sediment)? (3) The answer is realted to the answer for (1).
  2. These are all features created by meltwater. Think about where the ice was, the features meltwater would create, and where the meltwater would go.
  3. See page 187 in the Lab Book and Section 14.5, part C in the textbook.
