petroleum. Please consider the following questions and the attached
Map and
Worksheet
regarding this
important area:
- What countries comprise the
Middle East? A map of the area has been provided, you may wish to complete the map
by adding the names of the unlabeled countries.
- Which countries contain
petroleum reserves? List the top ten countries in the world with
respect to petroleum reserves. On the worksheet provided, you can indicate which are located in the
Middle East.
- Which Middle Eastern countries
are important in terms transportation of petroleum? Petroleum is
transmitted primarily via pipeline and ship, considering where the oil
is located, which Middle Eastern countries are important in terms
transportation. (use the worksheet provided)
- Which countries have
important religious sites? (use the worksheet provided)
- Which Middle Eastern countries
are friendly to the U.S. and which are not? What is the U.S.
military role in the Middle East? (use the worksheet provided)
Now consider the following question: What
do you think is appropriate United States foreign policy with respect to the
Middle East and energy policy for our country? Consider the
information you have collected regarding the Middle East, information on
energy resources discussed in class (what we use, what we should use in
the future and the impact of use). Your should consider what
you think is appropriate, why you think it is appropriate, and why the
policies are (or are not) linked.
