Preparing a Works Cited Page: The Template

The MLA recommends the template below for preparing Works Cited entries. Clicking on the name of the template element takes you to information about that element.

This page also provides a downloadable MLA template. Click the link to download the template and to open the file in your word processor. 

Fill in only the elements of the template that your source provides. The "Container 2" area of the template is not needed for many sources.

After filling in the template boxes, simply copy the information in the same order that it appears in the template and with the same puncutation, as shown in the examples linked at the bottom of this page.
